Successfully Establishing a Customer-Centric Design System

With the MDX design system, Migros pursued the ambitious goal of uniting several distinct brands under a common, flexible, and efficient design standard. A significant challenge was ensuring acceptance among the independent companies within the Migros Group without relying on mandates, instead achieving genuine buy-in through clear value and robust functionality.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to attract sufficient adoption from various teams across the Migros Group to ensure the long-term establishment and financial sustainability of the MDX design system. Without compulsory directives, the system had to win over the companies by clearly demonstrating tangible benefits and ease of implementation.

How WeSlam helped

WeSlam provided comprehensive support to the MDX team in establishing the system. Together, we conducted a thorough analysis of strengths and weaknesses, including an independent audit of the existing design system. By closely engaging with designers and developers from various Migros companies, we clearly identified and prioritized core requirements and needs.

Additionally, WeSlam assisted the MDX team in a detailed business model analysis aimed at making the design system financially independent in the medium term. We collaboratively developed a clear monetization strategy and defined practical and targeted actions to achieve this goal. Regular check-ins and close cooperation ensured these measures were swiftly implemented and continuously refined.

Thanks to our collaboration with WeSlam, we successfully developed our design system in a consistent and customer-centric manner while establishing a sustainable business model. Their structured approach, combined with strong methodological skills and business expertise, allowed us to deliver real value to all stakeholders.
